I was surprised to find, therefore, when I saw him interviewed a year or so ago, that despite being a baldy fat middle aged beardy bloke with (most damningly) a scouse accent, that I was quite attracted to him in a rude way. I too was expecting something far more cuddly / mellow, but he was astonishingly bitchy and arrogant. Fair enough, Ben Elton's a bit of a dong these days, but he wrote "Blackadder" and "The Young Ones" - what the heck has Sayle contributed to the comedy canon? All his solo series were rubbish. And you got the feeling that he was slagging Vic and Bob off for no better reason than he doesn't really understand their humour. Alexei - you should be as modest as your accomplishments. Mind you, he definitely wins the award for saying "You Know" the most number of times in an hour... You’re not wrong. He's supposed to have written a good book or two as well, but I've only read his humorous book 'Train to Hell' - it's slightly chucklesome but not exactly a classic.
