New chickens

Two new chickens added to our herd. We have found that 3 chickens provide the right amount of eggs for three people (with a couple to spare every now and again) - so to keep up with our hungry relatives and friends we decided to get a couple more birds.

I can’t remember what their breed is - begins with a ‘b’ - answers on a postcard. They’re quite stroppy though, compared to the brown originals.

A Herd of chickens?
Its a flock of birds,
a bevy of quails,
or a brood of hens,
or a clutch of chicks or eggs,
a covey of wildfoul

but the proper collective noun for chickens eludes me, wikipedia suggests a “peep”
what do you reckon?

you forgot a gaggle of geese.

My suggestion would be a ‘mob of chickens’

Sib 3/Neph 4 - there’s also (my favourite) an unkindness of ravens. And it’s wildfowl.

I suggest “an irritation of pedants”

Hello! Here via Ally, and having just acquired two very similar chooks, thought I’d chip in and say that I think the dark lovelies are Barnevelders.

Oh, and ‘a counfounding’ of chickens seems like a good collective noun to me, although I really love the ‘peep’ idea. :)

I don’t mind, but you (both of you) could at least try & spell it correctly. Tsk.

Hi K Witch - I thought they might have been Barnevelders too, but then I saw that they are meant to be rare, so assumed they weren’t. So now I will just tell people that that is what they are. :)

@CDP - I think you took Sib#3’s bait.
